O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOX) — Heavy rains overnight led to a dramatic water rescue in St. Charles County Friday morning.

St. Charles County sheriff’s spokesman Jeff Ochs told KMOX a pick-up truck drove straight into floodwaters on Firma Road near Highway 79 around 5 a.m. and got trapped.

One man, a teen, was able to get out and run to a nearby farm to call for help.

Rescue teams arrived and were able to pull a man still trapped in the cab of the swamped truck to safety — he’s being treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.

Sergeant Ochs said the area was barricaded because the road often floods. “There are signs up that says there is water over the road, obviously if you see that avoid the area.”

Authorities believe the two men had gotten lost and were unfamiliar with the area.
